traveling w/ gear

I am traveling to the Outer Banks,NC this summer with the family and
would love to bring along my qrp rig. The 'rig' of course consists of
radio, battery (closed, gel), antenna, key... I am looking forward to
the point when this conglomeration of 'unusual'-appearing electronic
gear etc goes scooting thru the xray at the airport. Pre 9/11, I took
this gear everywhere (internationally) without ANY difficulty
whatsoever. Just not sure that will be the case now however. So my
question to the group is: who's traveling with their gear and what's
the best approach (save for shipping it ahead - looking into that
possibility already). Thanks.
I've traveled all over the U.S. with HTs, scanner receivers, chargers,
and antennas in my carry-on suitcase. Never had anyone so much as
question it. As long as none of the equipment is on the prohibited list
you should have no problem. You should be prepared to power up any of
the battery-powered gear to show that it is operational. Take a copy of
your license along just in case you get one of those aggressive /
untrained TSA types.
