Might check and see which dual-banders allow you to select the band for each
"side". My Alinco DR-610 can do VHF/VHF, VHF/UHF, or UHF/UHF. The new
DR-620 can do this, also. I believe the Icom IC-2720 will, also. This way,
you'll get the advantages of TWO VHF radios in one.

So it's a dual-bander. Big deal. It seems to me that the more

important
issue is the remote head rather than single-band, and if that's the

case
he's almost certainly into dual-bander territory. The 8100 is a

fantastic
radio, one of the few that can do cross-band repeat, and it's small

too.

The reason I asked about a 2m with a remote head is because I rarely use

70cm.
I am well aware that almost every dualband has a remote head. I am not

sure why
2m radios aren't made this way. In any case, if I am going to get a

dualbander,
it's going to be a Kenwood TM-G707A.

Fair enough. Though I have the 8100, I too don't use 70cm at all, and
wonder why they don't make a single-band radio with a remote head.
