"However, these criteria, admirable as they are, are insufficient
for a *liberatory* postmodern science: they liberate human beings
from the tyranny of 'absolute truth' and 'objective reality', but
not necessarily from the tyranny of other human beings. In Andrew
Ross' words, we need a science 'that will be publicly answerable
and of some service to progressive interests.'" -- A.D.S.

A combined ballot for July and August is expected within the first few
days of September. Please check the LITS to ensure that all
nominations that have been validly made and seconded are included.
Notes:
1. This is not a ballot paper! Anybody attempting to vote at this time
will be laughed at!
2. The most obvious revenge nominations have been excluded. This does
*not* necessarily mean that all nominations litsed here will appear on
the ballot.
3. Somebody will have to decide how many people make up the
Harrington/Hardman/Cracked outer-filth collective. I've litsed them as
they appeared in the nominations.
4. Where two nominees are nominated or seconded by the same poster,
this is usually a result of two months' litses being combined in one.
LITS O' NOMINATIONS
-------------------
[snip]
It's plain to see that the alt.usenet.kooks newsgroup is declining in
interest. With any luck, soon awards will be voted on every three
months, then four months, and eventually not at all. When the AUK
newsgroup dies, a new set of awards must rise up to take its place,
hopefully awards more constructive and conducive to creative
truth-seeking, rather than ridiculing any ranger who challenges the
dogma of the establisment order. Tom Potter has suggested that the
mental health of the two or three AUK posters (and their sock puppets)
would be improved if they voted themselves the "Smartest Man in the
Universe" or "Handsomest Man on the Planet" awards. That's a good
idea! So today the United Front announces the Civility Awards. Unlike
the AUK awards, all nominations are accepted and every vote counts.
Nominate someone for an award listed below, or add your own award to
the list. Voting ends on 14 September, at midnight GMT.
Smartest Man in the Universe
Handsomest Man on the Planet
Novel Idea of the Month
Most Helpful Answer to a Question
Courageous Hero of the Month
Flamewar Diffusing Award
Inspiring Quote of the Month
