Adjustment of simple balanced tuner
I am new to this type of tuner and am hoping to benefit from other's
experience.
My new balanced tuner has a parallel lc circuit. The output to the antenna
is taken by clips placed on the
coil. A series tuned link is used from the 50 ohm input.
What is a short process for tuning? I have tried moving the taps around at 3
turn intervals and
trying to minimize the SWR. It seems that if I tune the series tuned link
off resonance the reflected
power decreases, but so does the incident power. Ditto the parallel link.
Must I put the tap on each turn of (the large coil) and see what comes out
lowest? Or are there
some "shortcuts". Is it likely that I will be able to produce a match over a
wide range of impedances
with this tuner? My first experiences have been rather frustrating to say
the least.
Thanks.
