Yeah, still shopping, but I really like the Yeasu FT-857. It's got a
lot and if I could just find a clean way to mount it and remove it
easily. Jeep cherokees are kinda tight on the inside.


You should be able to build a bracket that goes between the plastic knee
panel on the drivers side of the cherokee and the AM-FM
radio/airconditioning panel above the center console.

Basically I removed the plastic panel (and the steel sub panel) and
measured the distance fron the mounting screw hole to the edve of the
panel. I then bent a piece of aluminum to fit that distance. The
L-shaped piece should be long enough to clear the oabeks abd have room
for another l bracket that will support the removable faceplate of the
857. The main body of the radio can go under the back seat. Cables can
be snaked under the console and carpet.

The real problem is where to put the antenna so that it doesnt hit the
garage door when yo pull in.
