The rigs you could go with are too numerous to mention. But most
transistorized rigs do require a resonant antenna. For your "hunk of
wire" look at the MFJ antenna tuners, or for automatic antenna tuning,
the tuners from LDG or SGC. (there's web sites for all these guys)
