There is some agreement that Chinese expansion is on a shaky
foundation, and cannot continue expanding at 10% a year, but the big
difference between the problems of the US and the problems of China is
that the Chinese hold about a trillion dollars in US debt instruments
and the US has no way to redeem these debts. The US is not producing
much that anyone wants, having gutted their manufacturing industry
(except planes, war material) and China's factories are producing
everything. So the US cannot work its way out of debt, and China can
solve its allocation of resources. Bankers and investors do not want to
hold on to a depreciating currency and computer-driven trading programs
could tell everyone to sell at once. This is not good.
