It'll fail commercially but it definitely helps reception in some
cases.
It requires externally mounted dipole antennas - the general public is
not going to bother with this joke of a technology.
The three I have work fine in the LA basin. In fact, our AM, which is
unlistenable inside our building in analog, produces a clean HD signal at
the same location.
