Those installed in the 4U systems don't use the case. Inside the case
there's a stamped placard with a statement regarding Maritime Commission
approval. I believe I heard somewhere that the Corps of Engineers used
these on their ships and dredges? Anyone know? Thanks much.

Hey Jeep, I remember working on a couple of those receivers years ago.
I used to see them back in the 70's and early 80's, I used to work for
ITT Mackay in Houston. RCA had a service depot back then that usually
did all the service on the RCA consoles. I did work on a few of the
RCA consoles and did FCC inspections on them back then. They were real
common on a lot of American commercial ships. I remember a battery
operated RCA regenerative receiver, I cannot remember the model. It
was used for the emergency receiver and it was very sensitive and was
great for receiving on the medium frequencies. Hopefully someone will
