Default 6M/2M/70CM FM Rig

I'm looking for a Mobile/Base FM rig that will cover 6M, 2M and 440 MHz. I
see the Yaesu FT-8900R fits the bill, but are there any other rigs out
there?

BTW, how common is 6M FM anyway? Could I expect some interesting DX in FM
mode when 6M opens up?

You are correct. The FT8900 would fit that bill. A number of years
ago, Standard (amateur) was bought out by Vertex yaesu. One of the
absoluetely BEST rigs that has ever been manufactured and designed for
ham use was the Standard C5900. I own 4 of them. It covered 6m, 2m and
70cm FM. They are not made anymore of course, however, the FT8900 looks
very close in appearance to the C5900. From what I have heard though,
the FT8900 does not have the receiver performance of the C5900.

My recommendation, if you can find one for sale (they show up on Ebay
from time to time), is to get a C5900 that is in good condition.
