Just be aware that GMRS requires a license - at a fee of $75.

They cant decide between nice/quiet UHF/FM communications and 27Mhz/AM
noisy, crowded overpopulated service? Give me a break! this one is a
no-brainer! By the way....think about "MURS" for their use.

Sorry for being a little OT, but I'd think this is where the knowledge
is. I've been asked by a few non-ham friends to pick a GMRS radio for
them. They are going to be in a five mile square area, and could be
anywhere in that area. There are no tall buildings and the land is
mostly flat. They want to have the ability to talk to each other
reliably with good sound quality. They've ruled out FRS on their own,
and I agree, but they can't decide between GMRS or CB. I think the Icom
F21GM http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/frs/1606.html looks good,
but I'd love to have input from others that know more about radio than

me.
