Those antennas show excellent design and construction skills... They
can't possibly work when they are that perfect... Where is the
raggedy piece of a beer can, hose clamped to one side for tuning? How
come the coils are symmetrical... Jeez, any ham worthy of the name
could take one of those and drive over it a couple of times so it
looks like a "real" antenna...

Anyway, thanks for the url, I enjoyed perusing the pictures...

Denny:

Darn things remind of things out of a 1950's grade B science fiction
flick! grin

However, as you say, he has done a nice job in construction of them.

Oh my!! What a great site. I am so pleased to see examples of
experimentation
done with so much skill.I am sure it doesn't matter to him those that
question
the amount of gain he achieved or what use they are since it is
obvious
that it is a labor of love When I last visited Europe it was evident
that
experimentation was still active in amateur radio where there were
enthusiastic
listeners to the trials and tribulations of the antenna builder. I
never heard
any derision obviously because the question could immediately be
imposed as to
what the complainer had done lately. In America we have the ability to
buy what
we want and thus do not realise the joy of self achievement and the
comararderie
of fellow amateur builders. The amateur magazines still print plans
of how
to build a morse code keyer or a power supply but I doubt there are
many
builders and you certainly would not find an interest in the stated
antennas
this side of the Pond unless they met the standards of a cell phone.
It really is nice to see what a man can do for himself and the obvious
joy that
he gets what he is doing. As is often said it is the pursuit that
provides
enjoyement, something a couch potato will never realize. I wonder what
that amateur
would be doing if he lived in America Could he have survived the
caustic comments
usually applied to those who spend their time making antennas when
all about
antennas is now really known as the posters to this newsgroup will
testify to ?
We are not doers any more and are content with buying what doers in
other Countries
are willing to make for us until they realise we have nothing to trade
for their favors.
A Japanese admiral once said that they had awakened a sleeping giant,
so what does
it take to awaken a Nation from a coma?
