yEnc would be tech savvy enough to have progressed on from dial up!
I don't get the whole "tech savvy" thing with yEnc, Ian. There is
plenty of software out there that makes yEnc "invisible". It's not
even
a factor in any way. My newsreader displays all images and decodes all
mp3's, etc., yEnc or no yEnc. I know nothing about it and do nothing
for it.

If there was a simple and "invisible" plug in for Outlook Express I'd
probably install it, but as it stands the majority of people can't be
bothered with it so anyone who posts a picture and asks everyone to help
them are just shooting themselves in the foot.
Well, that puts yEnc at a distinct disadvantage. Have you tried a
newsreader like Forte Agent? If you read newsgroups, using a program
designed for the purpose is like emerging from Plato's cave and seeing
the actual sun - everything is so much easier!
I use a Mac program, MT-Newswatcher, and Forte Agent seems to be similar
and also very competent. I looked into it for a friend and ended up
signing on to the Forte Usenet server - the price is very reasonable and
the service excellent.
So its not just the inconvenience of setting up and learning a yEenc
reader - it costs more as well!
Do you do ham radio, Ian?
No - I'm more into industrial type electronics and TVs/monitors although
I've started taking PW since the demise of Television Magazine and
Technology @ Home.
