with the ante rising each solar cycle.
Not long ago a 'tweaked' 148 was the rage,
then the Uniden 2510 and other 'imports' with a bit more power,
and those were replaced by 706 class rigs as the must have XCVR.
It's now gotten where a simple 100w radio is a de facto exciter
and will get trounced in most pileups without at least a half kw
or more after it.

The same marketers (HRO, AES) that lobbied for HF no-code so they could
sell more of their kilobuck rigs and infuse cash into their bottom line
like the original VHF no-code did with handie talkies back in the 90s
should again use their financial clout to muscle the FCC into ignoring
or even decriminalizing the free banders that are and will become future
customers.
Make 11m free-band the autobahn of the airwaves,
go ahead and run whatever you can afford.

They all ready do. Yeah they should have out lawed the code when the
telephone was invented. But Amateur Radio is gaining in numbers and not
seeing a terrible decay in operating.

I have high hopes new digital technologies that will allow even better
DSP and IF Bandwidth Processing. I am sure its in the works.

I think the free bander's will see a decline as more and more of them
will get their ham license. I don't believe the code keep any of the
undesirabiles out but did keep a lot of potential ham radio enthusiasts
out of the hobby. Not many looking back at the code now.
