Each was hand-calibrated at the factory, and the book matched the
unit.
Back then, the articles would all say "make sure you get a BC-221
with a
calibration book", implying that it would be a terrible task to do it
yourself. I have no idea whether that was the case or not, but of
course,
things were comparatively primitive back then. With a frequency
counter,
it would be really easy, just repetitive, to build up a calibration
book.
On the other hand, if you've got a frequency counter, you might as
well
just us that rather than fuss over a calibration book.

Like everything else, you used to be able to buy blank calibration
books at the surplus stores. Sixty years after WWII, I have no idea
what kind of stock might remain.
