Good afternoon you all, I just got an early Christmas president. My
friend dropped off a Radio Shack Pro 2011 scanner *a couple of weeks
ago for me to take a look at and now he says for me to just keep it.
The problem seems to be in the liitle uP board. It will work a while
and then just go crazy. I thought maybe it was a power supply problem
but even running it from a battery doesnt help. Ive tried replacing
caps on the uP board with no help. I had really given up on it but I
would like to try one other thing now that its mine. IF I could bet a
schematic on the thing I would like to see if I could control the
radio from a PC port. I have done this before by bit banging data into
the PLL circuit.
If you have a schematic you could email me I would be thankful.
Hey I found the problem. The little board isnt a uP board after all. I
thought the big glob of epoxy on it was encapsulating a uP. Apparently
its just a keyboard matrix with the decoding done on the main board. I
found some really bad cold soder joints that connected the keypad to
the main board. When I pulled the wires loose they had no solder on
them at all. Called my friend and told him to come get it and he still
said it was mine. I would still like a schematic or sevice manual for
it. Does anyone know how old it is. Also I think GRE made the radio
and also sold the radio under their name. Does anyone know which
model that was.
