I recently had a battery corrode in my black

relevant.
If you need to keep a bludgeon class light on
hand,
at least get one of the LED retrofit bulbs
(about twenty bucks w/tax and well worth it)
CY: Wallfart used to have the. I got a couple 3D
mags with the LED bulb when Lowe's had them on
sale for $15. I should have bought five or six of
them.
The 4D mag light by my front door was dead. I
managed to get the tail cap off (two big pipe
wrenches) and find the bottom battery had
corroded. Brand new battery, Endurance, from
Advance Auto Parts. After considerable scrubbing
and sanding, the light works again. I'm leaving
it
in peices over night to dry. Then load up with
four Rayovac cells, and a shot of grease on the
tail cap threads.
Haven't had to relive that (used to be) common
scenario in quite awhile,
thanks to modern alternatives.
CY: Such as leak free batteries?
The 4D mag is my "grab and go" light, in case I
need to go some where in a hurry.
I suggest you install a cup hook in the door frame
to hang one of the Emissive
Energy Inova XO3 lights from. It's not the cudgel
the 4D is, but as bright if
not brighter and the Li batteries outlast those
old leaky "D's" by a substantial
margin,
IOW; light when you need it, plus will fit in your
pocket.

CY: I'm sure that would be brighter.
It was only happy coincidence that I found the
corroded battery. Might have been there for
years, if I'd not needed the light for a bulb
test.
Get the torch I suggested and consider the price
as tuition
so you don't have to endure a repeat during a
worse case event
that might be really serious.
CY: Ideally, I'll remember to check the light, now
and again. I also put in Energizers, today. I've
got other lights. The cup hook near the door is an
excellent idea. I may do that.
Since that time, others have told me that
batteries
corrode only in D cell mags,
BS
and typically the
battery next to the tail cap.
more BS
Has anyone else
had this happen? Is it a common problem?
Yes,
I've had people supply me with bull**** anecdotes,
if that's what you mean.
CY: Hmm. A couple ohter folks have reported
corroded battery at the spring cap.
C'mon Chris,
you've been on the survival groups long enough
to know better than rely on obsolete trinkets.
Pack up all those parts
and send them over to Gummer g
CY: Of course. He could trade me for one of his
thousand or so firearms. Excellent advice.
