GDMs are useless for anything above HF. There are plenty of circuits
around that will cover up to UHF, but they're hopelessly clumsy to use
in practice at such frequencies.

Sure am glad I waited until now to find that out. Used them and wavemeters
and slotted lines for 30 years at UHF until I found something better.
