To disable the XP firewall:
1. Left-click 'Start'
2. Left-click 'My Computer'
3. Right-click 'My network places'
4. Right-click 'Properties'
5. Right-click 'Local area connection'
6. Right-click 'Properties'
7. Left-click the 'Advanced' tab
8. Un-check 'Firewall'
9. Left-click 'OK'

If your using an anti-virus program that has its own firewall, you can
always leave the XP firewall off.

I am trying to get amateur radio programs like Echolink and InterAce to

run
behind the Windows XP Home Edition firewall. No luck and I am not the only
individual with this problem. I have spoken to several individuals on
Echolink that must turn off the firewall in order to function. One
individual uses the Zone Alarm firewall. Using two firewalls seems a bit
redundant. Has anyone out there in amateur radio land solved this problem?
