i'm wondering if there are any hamfests held in ottawa, canada. looking for
ham radios to buy and maybe get a licence. if anyone replies it's best not
to send it to the email address but re post it on the usenet server because
i might to see your email right away
I'm in Montreal despite my posting from the Ottawa Freenet.
The Montreal Amateur Radio Club is having their annual fleamarket
on Saturday, April 17th, just in case you want to make the drive.
I haven't been in a few years. It is a rather small space; they
had to move because they weren't filling the old space.

There were a couple in the Montreal vicinity in March, but
I know nothing of them except that they were held. There
is a fairly large one in the fall on the South Shore. I
haven't seen a date set yet, but I'd expect it on October
23rd.
There are definitely some fleamarkets in Ottawa, though
the only time I've been to any there was a couple of times
thirty years ago. There is one that takes place in late August
or early September.
To find an extensive list, check the Radio Amateurs of Canada
website at
http://www.rac.ca There is a list of upcoming hamfests,
and there's bound to be something in Ottawa. Maybe some of the
other hamfests will fit your sense of reasonable distance.
Of course, one can also see a list of upcoming hamfests at
the ARRL site,
http://www.arrl.org
The RAC site will either have a list of local clubs, or you
should be able to find them by emailing the RAC.
Of course, a transmitter isn't particularly userful unless
one has a license.
