I have a question on mobile/portable operation ... I seem to recall that
the FCC dropped the requirement to sign as portable/mobile with the
region the station is operating in.
Sterling:
That is correct.
I can't seem to find any reference to it.
That's because the requirement no longer exists.
I assume that W9XXX/W5 is good operating procedure but is it an
FCC requirement?
No, it is not.
I do know that a change in the 90s made W5/W9XXX
equally vaid as W9XXX/W5 ...
Neither configuration is necessary if a U.S. licensed amateur is operating
within the United States. A U.S. licensed amateur operating under
reciprocal operating authority in a foreign country would sign using the
host nation's prefix plus the U.S. amateur callsign, such as DL2/K3LT,
should I be visiting/operating in Germany.
