I am very handy, but just lack the basic dimensions.
Look at a J-Pole antenna. There are several websites with calculators
to design the one you want. While some people complain about their
performance J-Poles work fairly well, do not need a ground, are very
light and can be made for under a $1.
It may not be the best antenna for the job, but it will be simple
to make and may do the job you want.
