Jack, I dont know if you have any "Half Price Books" stores where you
are. I have found a 1955 and a 1965 ARRL handbooks for $3.00 each.
Might take a bit of looking to find. Also, I see some on Ebay for sale

And of course, the subject header didn't say it all, since there are various
reasons someone might be looking for a given year's handbook, but not all
of those reasons actually require the specific year.

Lots of times, people have wanted a specific year, and then it turns out
they wanted a certain project from it, and the project was actually in
multiple years of the handbook, or of course had originally been in QST
(maybe even in a fuller form), and that issue of QST may still be available
in paper form from the ARRL (and if not, they may still supply a photocopy
of a specific article for a fee).

The handbooks change like glaciers, so unless someone is trying to get
a complete set or wants the very same edition as they originally bought,
any specific edition is often bracketted by a few years.

JS, Looking at my 1959 Handbook, there's no project using 813's in a
modulator, per se. The high-power modulator in that issue uses 811A's.
The only project using an 813 is an amplifier, utilizing a single
tube. I'll check deeper in that year and see if I missed something
obvious and/or imbedded in the text on modulation/modulators.

I have a 1964 (11th edition) handbook here, and it has only one transmitter
project which is a little QRP 4-tube set, the Knightkit T-60.

The reference was from an ER article in issue 153-155 by W3BYM. His
email in in qrz so I asked him for more info.

However, seems like QRZ email addys are not much good. Most of them bounce.

What I am actually looking for is the article or project on using 813's

I will do some searching, but I think the Radio Handbook, rather than the
Radio Amateur's Handbook, may have the article you are looking for. I know
it has an article on using 813s as triode modulators, which is rather
unusual. And, I am thinking it was further back. Will go upstairs to the
radio book library and do some searching.

The 16th edition Radio Handbook (1962) has a "Zero Bias Tetrode Modulator"
featuring a pair of 813s operating as grounded grid, zerio bias modulators
and claims to have 500 watt output. Page 683

I looked in the 11th edition of Radio Handbook and did not find it, but I am
about 87.22% certain that one of the Handbooks features 813s utilized as
triode modulators.

Will keep looking.
