Before I put up a WTB notice, will some kind member of this group tell me if
buy and sell notices are OK here? If not, where do they suggest? It's probably a one off. |

How often and how recently have you posted about boatanchors here? This was set up as a discussion newsgroup, with a lot of debate over whether ads should be allowed. It was 1995, and even then there was worry that some sites would not carry the newsgroup once it was created if it carried ads. The ads won out, but it was never intended as a buy and sell newsgroup, it was meant as a discussion newsgroup where the people who wanted it felt the buying and selling was an integral part of it. Most of those people who felt that way are long gone, or never even participated. Hence there really is very little discussion here. YOu should take that as a hint. If there's no discussion here, then why in the world would you think it's a viable place to sell things? if nobody is reading the newsgroup, because there isn't any on-topic discussion, then why would placing an ad here be more viable than in the real buy and sell newsgroup, rec.radio.swap? Or a local buy and sell newsgroup, that may not have many interested in old radios but would have locals that you wouldn't have to ship to? Or Ebay, that is set up for buying and selling, and surely reaches a lot more people than those who still read this newsgroup. On the other hand, anyone still reading this newsgroup undoubtedly aware of ebay. If you want to sell something, then at least do your part to lure people here by participating in the discussion of old amateur radio equipment (not computers, not audio, not guns, not 1970's solid state ham gear, and certainly not anything more recent than the seventies). Because if you don't do it, you'll merely be trying to leech off the discussion, with the joke being that there isn't enough discussion to lure people here to see your ads. Michael VE2BVW |

Michael is right in his rememberances of the start of this group. I was the
proponent who started it. Then I was KT2Q. I also believe the equipment newsgroup was to be discussions of ham gear, not selling, but that's about all there is in that group. rec.radio.swap - I dont even check it anymore, since as I remember all it is is ebay ads. Promotions to get people to go check their ebay ads. How boring. You gort a boaanchor to list? I say go ahead and list it. It's better than nothing!! Rick K2XT |

It's probably a one off. This groups will have a charter somewhere that states the policy on advertising set down when it was created. I searched but could not find the charter but someone else with more time probably can. In general Usenet groups frown on advertising but some advertising is permissible or even encouraged, especially where it is helpful to the community using the newsgroup. I am not a long time user of this group and can't pretend to know what its policies are but I do see some advertising here. I should think that WTB is allowable especially if someone is looking for parts for something. I've done that myself and had considerable help. A good source of information about Usenet can be found at: http://www.harley.com/usenet/ This also has links to other sites with even more information. A Google search will find even more. -- -- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles WB6KBL |

Rick K2XT Off topic but who cares :-) Rick, It's been a long time since we worked in the same building. Now ON topic I still check here and occasionally see something of interest. But I am not as active on ham radio as I used to be Cheers Bill K7NOM |

Well, it certainly won't be about guns, that's for sure! A posting I placed
here many years ago about antique radios managed to start a few US 'enthusiasts' boasting about how they'd shoot anyone they didn't agree with... "Michael Black" wrote in message ample.net... they used them in all the best listening centers.
I had one for 10 years it cost me £10 apparently it came from Bletchley. It was way to big to move round my small shack, so I gave it the local club. I hear it went in the yearly auction for,,, you guessed it £10 "MoiInAust" wrote in message ... "Richard Knoppow" wrote in message m... "MoiInAust" wrote in message ... Ok then, here goes... Yes, I believe they were exported to Europe and UK in large numbers as a specific part of the war assistance effort. |
