They were a big name in VHF equipment forty years ago, alongside Gonset that made the various Communcators. Clegg was better grade VHF equipment, albeit not moonbounce level, when most commercial VHF ham equipment was for local useage. I had to look up the Zeus (and I'm lazy so it's a websearch rather than checking old magazines) and it's a transmitter. Covers both six and two meters. About a hundred watts output. AM and CW. It, like many of the other Cleggs, were something you dreamed of having. Michael VE2BVW |

Dale,
How about if we assume that I am not a troll! Goggle definition of troll: "An outrageous message posted to a newsgroup or mailing list or message board to bait people to answer. Trolling is a form of harassment that can take over a discussion. Well meaning defenders can create chaos by responding to trolls. The best response is to ignore it. Also, the person who posts such messages." Was I outrageous? Sorry if my small post was a problem to everyone. I am just looking for a particular vintage VHF transmitter. I had one as a kid and I wish that I still had it. What better place to make a simple inquiry? You never know untill you ask. 73, WA6VCR "Dale Parfitt" wrote in message ... wrote in message om... Dale,
How about if we assume that I am not a troll! SNIP What is a Clegg Zeus? is that Ham radio or what?W4PQW Think he was referring to the person who was asking what the Zeus was....not to the one searching for the Zeus. Heh...I'm rebuilding an old Ameco 6n2...neat old transmitter. Just finished the VFO, works great. Now to stuff new caps into old (failed) cap. cases.....now to get it onto 50.400 and see who's around. A |

Dale, How about if we assume that I am not a troll! You misread his post. He was replying to the post by someone else asking what a Zeus is. He took that poster for a troll. That other post did show a certain ignorance, certainly suggesting he doesn't know what this newsgroup is about. On the other hand, when people treat this as a buy and sell newsgroup, rather than a newsgroup to discuss these old rigs, it does nothing to eductate such people about the old rigs. The stuff I deleted from your post, about how you had a Zeus as a kid is intriguing, because while I came along about a decade or so after it was produced, it always struck me as something the average kid would only lust after, rather than own. My apologies to Dale, I misunderstood!
Nice to hear about the Ameco rig. I have one here, a TX-62 with 621 VFO, that I plan to get on 50.4 soon. It would be nice to see a lot of the vintage VHF stuff on the air, 73, WA6VCR "AA" wrote in message ... Dale, How about if we assume that I am not a troll! that I plan to get on 50.4 soon. It would be nice to see a lot of the vintage VHF stuff on the air, Yup...I enjoy VHF boatanchors! The old Gonset IV has surprised a few folks on 50.400.....the audio is quite nice; much "richer" than the other SS rigs I've used (DX70TH & FT857) on AM. I was hoping for some AM contacts during FD, but heard no one during the short time I was able to operate, and no replies to my CQs. Back on topic....the Ameco uses several dual capacitors in the PS section....I was going to try to hollow out the caps and restuff them, but the new caps are too big.....anyone still make 400 mike 450 V dual caps? Didn't see any in my (brief) search thru Moser and my old Newark catalog. 'Course, the Ameco is NOT a Collins or Hammerlund....probably no harm in just swapping them out for two new caps..... Cheers!
