Okay, hope this doesn't sound stupid but here goes. Someone once told me that
you could use a television antenna with a CB radio. Is this true? If so how? I'm no electronics wiz by any stretch hence the question. One of the reasons I don't think it'd work is because the cable used for TV antennas is different from what is used for a CB radio isn't it? Any help anyone can give would be appreciated. Thanks very much. Gath |

No, you can't use a TV antenna on CB, it's too short. The
cable really has nothing to do with it though. You can use the elements of a TV antenna to make a CB antenna but there is some modification envolved, it isn't a simple 'plug- n-play' thing. Is it worth the trouble? Not unless you just want to make an antenna for the fun of it. 'Doc |

I think you were probably being told that you could stick your cb antenna on
top of a roof mounted tv antenna pole? NO, I don't think he was. He was asking a legitimate question. AND there is
a book that has such an idea listed in it. It made use of a matching coil to match impedances if I recall correctly.. I have the book here somewhere, boxed up preparing to move. So I can't refer to the title OR the actual instructions to quote verbatim. I'm not sure what if any "particular" type of coax they called for - or lengths for that matter, but I do recall the transformer deal. G.W. "B@ndit" wrote in message ... I saw a radio shack salesman explain how you could use their VHF/UHF discone for CB.. It's not even a great antenna where it DOES work! |

Our local RS manager is an extra, and pretty competent. The RS manager that used to be here, was pretty slick. He knew his inventory well. He may not have been the greatest in Electronics knowledge but he learned as he went along. He did ok in the long run. What he didn't do, was swear to something working if he wasn't sure. Some of his truthfulness probably cost him his job as they ended up screwing him big time. He told me, he'd rather not sell an item than to have them have to return it, maybe even angry! Made sense to me. Hopefully, he is in a much better surrounding now. Actually, he was the 2nd of 2 that were at this store. The other left on his own. He got tired of the bull ****. I've seen salesmen and managers alike sell things they had no clue of, to customers. The only time they bother me, is to offer me special prices on closeouts if they know I use the items. Otherwise, they know me well enough to know that I don't need their help. Hell, I've helped them far more than they have me! Of all the ones I've run into in 4 different stores in a 40 mile radius, 10% had any clue as to what they were doing. The rest winged it. Yeah, R.S. lost 2 of the best managers they will ever have had employed. Their loss. Some one else is gaining from them now. G.W. |
