remove the rubber grip by sliding it off the front of the dial, then losen the
screw on the dial. I'm pretty sure it is a hex head. |

I see there are some screws on the side, but I suspect there are a couple under the tuning dial knob. How does one remove the tuning dial knob? Looking at the screw head, it doesn't look like a hex screw. There are two screws behind the tuning knob, but it's not necessary to remove the knob to remove the front panel You can remove the knob by inserting the appropriate size Allen wrench into the hole in the knob. What's the proper size allen wrench? How do I remove the front panel without removing the knob? Tnx! 73, -jav w6vms |

![]() "Javier Henderson" wrote in message ... What's the proper size allen wrench? 1/8" fits mine. How do I remove the front panel without removing the knob? In order to get to the push buttons you're trying to work on, you have to remove the face panel which swings down from the front of the rig once you remove the necessary screws. You might find it's a little rough going cuz things are pretty tightly packed in there. I've been in there to replace the meter lamp twice in the past 15 years and it's tight. You'd do well to see of you can locate a service manual. It'll make the task easier. I learned the trial and error way to get in there. Glenn AA5PK |

Well, I did remove the front panel, and it was relatively easy to get to the PCB that has the switches. These buggers are a paint to work on, however. They're membrane switches. I carefully lifted the clear mylar, and slowly removed each membrane, and cleaned them off individually. I also cleaned the copper pads on the PCB. I'm taking a break from all of that as I type this... You'd do well to see of you can locate a service manual. It'll make the task easier. I learned the trial and error way to get in there. I have it, it came in the mail today, after I was about 1/2 way into the disassembly... Your comment about the lamp is making me wonder if I should do a preemptive replacement. 73, -jav w6vms |
