Cushcraft R3 matching network part detail

Does anyone know what is exactly inside the "matching network
assembly" part for the R3 vertical antenna? I'm sure it's a couple of
capacitors, but I need to know the values in order to build one for my
R3.

Thanks,
Prentice

If you are referring to the original Cushcraft R3 with its remote control.
There was a motor /capacitor and coil. I did see documentation on the
Internet at one point (not from Cushcraft) a few years ago.

Thanks, w9gb

I have the manual for the R3, and I think the variable capacitor/motor
is OK. The part that needs replacing is a small coupling block
between the actual SO-239 feedpoint and the stubs that go to the
ring. The parts list calls it a matching network assy., so it must
contain some series capacitors, or something. I contacted Cushcraft
with no success...too old of an antenna.

Anyway, I will probably be moving to a GAP antenna. This one has
served an OK life.

Thanks,

OK, likely a couple of 47 pF doorknobs (or about 86 ) could be used for
replacement.

Hi Tom,

You're in luck. I have one of the largest (if not the most complete)
collections of Cushcraft assembly manuals etc. anywhere.

According to my notes, the lowest capacitor, the one closest to
ground is around 78 pFd and the upper one is around 138 pFd. I'm sure
anything near that value will be sufficient.

Joe, W1JR
