Dear Community,

Seattle Pride '03 is finally here! The Freedom Day Committee would like to
welcome each of you to join in celebration with us this Saturday and Sunday
on Capitol Hill. With a great lineup of entertainers and speakers, an
evening showing of The Brady Bunch Movie, and the most fabulous and
socially conscious march in town, everyone is sure to have a blast! This
year, we have chosen "Families We Make" as our theme, and we can't wait to
see all of our community's families celebrating with us this weekend!

It is important for us to realize the value of these families to our
community. After decades of living life on the sidelines, we have stepped
out of the shadows to forever change the definition of family. We are
families of parents and children, families of friends, single parents,
parents and pets, couples of all races and sexes, and so many more. We hope
that seeing everyone come together this weekend will remind us what a
powerful force our combined families can be.

With this week's Supreme Court ruling calling Texas' sodomy law
unconstitutional, we can rejoice that our nation's laws are one step closer
to viewing all Americans as equal. There can be no doubt this ruling will
have a tremendously positive impact on our families and our community,
helping further our march towards equality. What a great way to start
Pride!

As you enjoy the events in Volunteer Park, we welcome you to stop by the
Freedom Day Committee booth and give us your feedback on the event. We will
also be looking for volunteers to help make next year's event even better!
It takes a very large team of volunteers to make this event happen, and on
behalf of all those involved, we wish everyone a safe and happy Pride
weekend.
