Use a Heathkit phone patch for recording phone conversations?

I've just picked up an old Heathkit HD-15 Hybrid phone patch. Can
someone tell me whether it's possible to set this up apart from ham
gear, simply to record telephone conversations, and if so, how? I need
a way of balancing the local and remote voices and figured perhaps this
old phone patch can be put to a slightly different purpose...

Nope! Buy a stick on sucker mic and plug it into your recorder.
