Tell Your Listeners They Don't Matter And Win?

Posted: 23 Aug 2016 01:29 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/blogs/...atter-and-win/

On Monday, morning host Joe Volk was missing from Cumulus Rock Z93 WKQZ
Midland/Saginaw MI after over two decades as host of the Joe And The
Poorboy morning show.

Co-host Adam Shilling announced on the air yesterday that Volk was no
longer employed at the station, but when pressed online things turned a
little ugly. When a listener, who also claimed to be an occasional
advertiser asked why Volk was gone the station responded Yes, you do
deserve an explanation and if you were listening this morning you would
have heard one. Oh but wait, you werent listening.

Is that really how you want to treat a listener? Even if he wasnt a
one-time and potentially future advertiser why throw away the chance to
make one? With the technology available to us now wouldnt it have been much
easier to say something along the lines of Unfortunately Z93 and Volk
needed to go our separate ways. Heres a link to the audio from this morning
where we discussed the situation?

This way you turn it into a way to promote the station and get on top of
the situation as opposed to creating negative publicity in multiple forms.
In particular this comes just months after a sister station in the same
cluster has been hit with negative publicity for the firing of its longtime
morning show and then taking them to court over the launch of an internet
show.

But sure, lets keep giving listeners a reason to turn away not just from a
station, but from radio in general.

Translator Launches Lead To Redding AM Frequency Swap

Mapleton Communications has moved its two Redding CA AM formats to new
frequencies as both launch FM translators.

News/Talk 1400 KQMS has moved to 1670, while launching a simulcast on 105.7
K289BT Anderson. The move places the Talk format on the 10kW daytime/1kW
night 1670 signal, while giving it the 250w/407m signal from the KSHA-FM
tower in Iron Mountain outside the city. KQMS continues to simulcast on
99.3 KQMS-FM Shasta Lake City despite the considerable signal overlap with
the new 105.7. The three frequencies are being branded as Reddings News
Talk Superstation.

Sports Fox Sports Redding 1670 KNRO moves to the 1kW 1400 frequency while
launching 103.9 K280GP Bridgeport. K280GP operates with 250w/39m from the
1400 tower.

Nielsen Investigating Los Angeles PPM Irregularities

Posted: 22 Aug 2016 05:05 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...rregularities/

Nielsen Audio sent out a memo to clients this afternoon that it has found
irregular compliance patterns affecting 35 households in the Los Angeles
PPM survey.

Nielsen is removing the 35 households affecting 55 PPM holders from the
August 2016 week 3, week 4 and monthly releases. The company says that 2%
of the average daily in-tab and less than 1% of listening in those weeks
were affected. Further investigation in to prior survey releases and other
markets will be made.

As part of Nielsens ongoing quality assurance program, we identified
irregular compliance patterns in select PPM homes in the Los Angeles metro
area. We conducted an extensive investigation which determined that
Nielsen’s quality standards were not followed. Out of an abundance of
caution, we removed 35 households, which represented 55 average daily
in-tab persons for the first two weeks of August. This accounts for 2% of
the average daily in-tab and contributed less than 1% of listening for
these weeks.

The Nielsen PPM August 2016 Week 3, Week 4 and monthly data releases will
exclude these homes. The data will release as originally scheduled.

We are conducting an impact analysis of 2016 data for the LA market to
determine what, if any, actions may be required for prior months. We will
be in constant communication with our Los Angeles clients to ensure they
are kept updated on the results of the impact analysis and plans moving
forward.

We are also investigating all other PPM markets and conducting an
aggressive review of protocols and will be taking a number of steps to
prevent recurrence. Nielsen is committed to upholding the highest standards
of data integrity and market transparency in order to provide the most
effective audience measurement solutions to meet client needs.

We will continue to actively update clients and the industry on our
findings and steps moving forward.
