IRTS Technical Panel

The IRTS Technical Panel is a group of volunteers who have expertise
in, or experience of, different aspects of amateur radio. Our aim is to
help radio amateurs with technical or operational problems.

deal with the issue in question.

Counties Contest

Today 11th September is the deadline for the submission of logs for the
counties contest. Logs should be sent to contestmanager /at/ irts.ie

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will be QRV as EI2WSVR (pending
approval from ComReg) from The Waterford & Suir Valley Railway station
Kilmeaden Co. Waterford on Saturday & Sunday 24th & 25th September.
This is to coincide with the Railways On the Air Weekend. Proposed
frequencies for the weekend include 3.650, 7.120 & 14.120 Mhz. The
Waterford and Suir Valley Railway Company is a community heritage
project. The project has enabled the magic of rails golden age to be
brought to life in Kilmeaden. A heritage narrow gauge railway runs
along 17 kilometers of the abandoned Waterford to Dungarvan line with
spectacular views. The railway is currently operated by a volunteer
crew. It opens from April to the 30th September for the summer season.
It is popular with both locals and tourists and appeals to people of

Due to our "Learn CW" course taking place on Monday 26th September
there will be no September meeting of the club.

Normal meetings will resume in October. Please note that all the
available places for our "Learn CW" course have now been taken. For all
those taking part we look forward to seeing you tomorrow night at 7pm
sharp. Can all people taking part please check their emails as further
instructions and a list of items needed have been emailed to all of
you.

South Dublin Radio

Dah dit dah dit , Dah dah dit dah, Morse classes will be starting this
week at South Dublin Radio club. Run by EI7GY Joe Ryan anyone attending
is asked to bring a pen and paper. Passing the Morse test allows
existing Radio Experimenters to move from a 3 letter call to a 2 letter
call. It may also allow operating in countries where Morse is still a
requirement. Classes will take place in a separate room allowing the
usual tea drinking and chat to continue for everyone else. It starts
8.30pm sharp every Tuesday at the Community Centre at the Marian Road
in Rathfarnham. All welcome. Booking not required.

DX News

A team of 6 Polish operators are active until 18th September with the
unusual callsign of ZA/ZA1P. They are operating on all bands 160m to 6m
CW, SSB and RTTY.

Island chasers may be interested in working members of a team from the
Cambridge University Wireless Society who will be on the Westman
Islands (IOTA EU-071) from 13th to 16th September. The Westman Islands
are off the south coast of Iceland and have a population of about
4,000. The callsigns to look for are TF/homecall.

The well-known DXer Zorro JH1AJT will activate the callsign A5A from
Bhutan until 17th September. He will be joined by Champ E21EIC and
Franz DJ9ZB and activity will be on 80m to 10m CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL
manager is JH1AJT.

Stu K4MIL will be QRV again as KG4SS from Guantanamo Bay from 14th to
21st September. He will be on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL to his home call.

Enigma Reloaded 2016

Enigma reloaded 2016 will be held from September 17th to October 1st

The main goal of the Enigma Event is to promote as much Amateur radio
activities as possible all over the world, celebrating the history of
the Enigma cipher machine and its crucial role in the outcome of the
second World War.

The Enigma Event 2016 will take place in two steps:

From 17th to 30th September 2016. Italian and foreign Amateur radio
stations registered as Activator stations will be QRV to enable
contacting stations gain their score in the Enigma Award.

On October 1st the final day of the event, the Activator Stations will
exchange pre-defined CW messages previously enciphered by a real or
emulated Enigma machine.

Cavan EI2LLX Crossband Repeater

Ronnie EI9ED is testing a digital radio, DMR - repeater from EI2LLX
site in Cavan. The repeater will beacon a digital audio transmission
every 10 minutes, to facilitate signal and audio quality checks.

The DMR radio will further be connected to the 2meter Cross Band
Repeater at a later stage The DMR beacon transmit frequency is 430.975.
