Radio Club to Commemorate National Parks Anniversary:

This year, amateur radio operators throughout the United States have helped
commemorate the first 100 years of the National Park Service. Clubs pack up
their antennas, radios and source of power and head for historically
significant sites where they will set up their equipment to reach out to
hundreds of other radio operators. The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club will
conduct its final public demonstration on Saturday, November 12 as part of
the American Radio Relay League's "National Parks on the Air" program.
During these events, amateur radio operators or "hams" as they are more
commonly known, attempt to contact as many units in the national parks
system as possible from their home locations. The overall goal for hams at
the parks is to contact as many U.S. states and territories as possible.
The activity returns the CARC to the Blythe Ferry Removal Memorial Park in
Birchwood; a federally recognized site on the Trail of Tears National
Historic Trail. This marks the club's third activation as the Trail of
Tears as part of the year-long event. The Club's October demonstration at
Red Clay State Historic Park saw 10 member participants interacting with
park visitors, and six radio operators communicating by voice and Morse
code to amateurs throughout the country.
