Iris Medias 98.3 KDVC Columbia launched today with Christmas Music as 98.3 K-Santa with a permanent format to come after the holidays. The KSanta.com domain is owned by Zimmer Radio and as we reported when Iris won the FCC auction for the station in 2015, owner Joseph Uzoaru is based in the same city as Zimmer. 983KDVC.com and 983KSanta.com were registered by employees of Zimmer as well. Educational Media Foundations K-Love translator 98.3 K252FE Columbia has relocated to 106.5 with the sign-on of KDVC. /////////////////////////////////////////// 92.1 The Mic Madison Drops Liberal Talk For Christmas Music Posted: 09 Nov 2016 09:33 AM PST https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...ristmas-music/ iHeartMedia Liberal Talk 92.1 The Mic WXXM Sun Prairie/Madison WI dropped its format at 11am this morning and has flipped to Christmas Music as 92.1 Best-FM. As reported yesterday in our Daily Domains report, the move will lead to a new format for the station under the Best-FM branding after the holidays. A format change had been expected since the stations brokered afternoon show was told in late October that WXXM was cancelling their show. 92.1 The Mic goes out with a 2.1 share in the Summer 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings, by far the highest for any station in the format registered by Nielsen. INSTANT INSIGHT: WXXM was the longest lasting and most successful of the Liberal Talk stations to launch in the mid 2000s. While the timing of the format change following the election of Donald Trump last night will elicit a strong backlash from the stations previous core audience, from a billing perspective theres no way the station was making money. Its audience skewed just as old as Conservative Talk without a flagship program to sell to national advertisers. The format may very well see a rebound under the Trump administration, but it will need an owner that is invested in the format and willing to find a way to find that flagship national program. iHeartMedia Madison announced today the debut of Madison’s Home for the Holidays 92.1 BEST FM, a new holiday music station for listeners in the Madison community. 92.1 BEST FM will broadcast around-the-clock festive music leading into the holiday season. Fans can listen to 92.1 BEST FM on the station’s website, www.921bestfm.com, as well as on iHeartRadio.com. Beginning today, November 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. “We’re excited to spread cheer throughout the community with popular holiday music on WXXM. Madison’s Home for the Holidays 92.1 BEST FM is a great way for our listeners to get into the holiday spirit!” said Keith Bratel, Market President for iHeartMedia Madison. /////////////////////////////////////////// Scripps CEO Rich Boehne To Retire In 2017; Adam Symson Named COO Posted: 09 Nov 2016 06:00 AM PST https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...son-named-coo/ E.W. Scripps CRO Rich Boehne will retire during the second half of 2017. Scripps has concurrently promoted Chief Digital Officer Adam Symson to Chief Operating Officer with the expectation he will rise to CEO upon Boehnes retirement. Boehne has been President/CEO of Scripps since 2008 and added Chairman duties in 2013. Symson has been with Scripps since 2002 and overseen the companys digital operations since 2011 through its merger and newspaper spin-off with Journal Communications and acquisitions of podcast network Midroll, comedy site Cracked, and Newsy. Rich Boehne will retire from his role as president and CEO of The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP) during the second half of 2017, and the company has appointed Chief Digital Officer Adam Symson to the new position of chief operating officer. As COO, Symson will report to Boehne and oversee day-to-day operations of the companys broadcast TV, digital media and radio divisions. He is expected to move into the chief executive role when Boehne retires. Boehne, 60, has been president and CEO since 2008 and was elected chairman of the board in 2013. The board anticipates Boehne will continue as its chairman following the transition later next year. Symson, 41, joined the Scripps TV division in 2002 and has held a variety of roles before taking over the companys digital operations in 2011. In that role, he has run Scripps local digital businesses in 27 markets as well as national digital content companies Midroll, Newsy and Cracked. Scripps digital portfolio includes web, mobile and over-the-top businesses, and Symson has led the strategy and execution of product development, content, revenue and marketing for that portfolio. He also has led the companys efforts to develop new businesses in emerging media through investment and acquisition. Adam has demonstrated the leadership and entrepreneurial skills critical for the continued long-term success of the Scripps enterprise, Boehne said. In this media environment, where opportunities and challenges develop at an ever-accelerating pace, he has shown his ability to build successful media brands. Having spent more than half of his career in broadcast television, including as an investigative journalist and a news strategist for Scripps, Adam is driven by our companys mission and our vision of creating a better-informed world. His deep experience as a broadcaster, a builder of digital media brands, and a discerning leader will serve our employees, our customers and our owners exceptionally well. Prior to 2011, Symson ran operations, content and revenue for the TV divisions interactive businesses. He also spent a year as director of content and marketing for the Scripps Interactive media division, which was spun off into Scripps Networks Interactive in 2008. He has served as director of investigations and special projects and director of news strategy and operations for the Scripps corporate television group. He joined Scripps as executive producer of investigations and special projects for Scripps affiliate KNXV in Phoenix in 2002. He also has worked for CBS stations WBBM in Chicago and KCBS in Los Angeles and as an independent producer for CBS News and NBC News. Symson has a bachelors in communication from the University of California, Los Angeles. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Cincinnati and serves on the boards of Cincinnati Public Radio, Adath Israel Congregation and Scripps Howard Foundation. |
