On May 8, 1911 Captain Washington I. Chambers prepared requisitions for
two Curtiss biplanes. One, the Triad, was to be equipped for arising
from or alighting on land or water; with a metal tipped propeller
designed for a speed of at least 45 miles per hour; with provisions for
carrying a passenger alongside the pilot; and with controls that could
be operated by either the pilot or the passenger. The machine thus
described later became the Navy's first airplane, the A-1. On July 1,
1911 the A-1 was delivered to the Navy.

The Naval Aircraft Factory opened in 1917 on the Philadelphia Naval
Base property and eventually morphed into the Naval Air Engineering
Center where I landed coming out of school in 1963. I stayed aboard
for six years and had a blast. I got stories . . !

How to prove prior ham license ??

Herbert Fischer would like to show that he held a valid ham license (WN1UYH)
in 1954 that required the 5 wpm code proficiency. Without the actual
license, is there a way to prove he held the license? (Maybe a copy of the
old CallBook page with his call would work?)

All suggestions welcomed.


His QSL card collection from those days would at least be in the right direction.
