Have you ever seen a "gentleman ham" recently?
Something happened to all the old guys who welcomed new members into their ranks? Held instruction/tutorials at their homes and public forums. Instructed rather than wished to control others... It is a real shame, but the caliber of amateurs is equal or below the chicken banders in this brave new world... John "an old friend" wrote in message ups.com... Yes I have his name was Scot KB9NXL His license class howver was tech plus, he was also the first Ham I tlaked to on the air, and recoved well when he learned I was using one of the other band on the multiband repeater (based on the fact that the 440 HT was on sale compred to the 2M one I got the 440) Something happened to all the old guys who welcomed new members into their ranks? something did happen to them I have never seen one in person, and not talked to one on the air that I know of Held instruction/tutorials at their homes and public forums. yea Instructed rather than wished to control others... Indeed mine KB9NXL loved morse code was his favorite modebut he was able to respect that I truely loath the mode, and we became and remain friends It is a real shame, but the caliber of amateurs is equal or below the chicken banders in this brave new world... from what I hear below but then what hear on CB that is bad is merely vulgar, what I hear that is bad on Ham radio is bigotry in better language I prefer the vulgar to the bigoted John "an old friend" wrote in message ups.com... I am afraid all you are seeing is that CB accurately reflects the condition of
"the world." The "F word" is considered proper etiquette onboard campus... Indeed, even professors have been know to utter it... Society is not controlled though regulation of radio... Making sense out of it is another matter. Jim I have been coutesous to on this but you are straining my ability to do so "Coutesous to on this"?? Did you mean "courteous to you on this"? If so, why didn't you write it that way the first time? Courtesy means you would at least *try* using a spellchecker, and some capitalization, and some punctuation. But you steadfastly refuse to do any of that. How can you use CW a medium completely without error correction and be unable to work the meaning of simple text with the leasure of time and the abilty to look at the context You obviously don't understand "error correction". The purpose of error correction is to identify and correct errors that occur in the transmission medium - assuming the message is sent correctly in the first place! What you expect is for readers of your stuff to translate it into readable English. And if they have difficulty, you say it's *their* problem. That's not how CW/Morse Code works at all. People can follow my typing the first draft with no polishing turned into CW on air and yet you claim you can't follow it in text I don't think you've ever used CW on the air. How is that possible? Do you have an exaplintion why The level of difficulties for people in reading my stuff here in this newsgroup declines as support for code testing increases, indeedanywhere I post it seem that the abilty to read and understands declines with the degree of their agreement I frankly suspect that what the problem is, is simply that people like Dave and it seems you don't want to understand and therefore seize on any excuse not to do so I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If you dispense with spelling, capitalization and punctuation, why post at all? Here's a theory, Dave: It's done to antagonize the reader. As a way for the writer to insult the reader, by saying the reader is unworthy of the effort required to write understandably. close Jim it is a reflection of the author opinion of the value of the medium, usenet is unworthy of the effort, but I have said that before "Usenet is unworthy of the effort"? That's a cop-out. What you're really saying is that the *people who read Usenet* aren't worthy of *your* effort. That's what it boils down to. Who wants to read the ramblings of an illiterate? The point is that you and others bother to read the gibberish and comment on it at length. and that is an intersting point So here's my final point: The hardware and software of Usenet don't care if you post clear prose or complete gibberish. Only the readers care. So you are saying the readers aren't worth it. That works both ways. Your posts aren't worth the effort it takes to read and decipher them, let alone answer them. So I won't. |

![]() I just got a phone call from the "Idiot's Defense League" and they say they'll sue if I keep associating Markie with idiots...I asked them what they suggested, and they said that whatever adjective I would choose to use, "idiot" was just too good for him. There's "moron" but I don't know if that's a step up or a step down.... ;-) |

N2EY: I predict, because of this new threat which will disclose the sheer simplicity of amateur radio, the old hams will rally-up with a burst of new energy and surprise us all.... I think a new (re-discovered really) technology will be developed by the hams, in a joint effort of all classes, to develop and perfect the arcane lost knowledge of reincarnation. Dead hams will arise from their graves, grab keys and re-new old expired sk licenses. Element 1 shall never pass from this earth! RADIO HAM MORSE CODE ZOMBIES LORDS OF THE WIND! [working title] Soon to be a Major Motion Picture, produced by Dreamworks SKG! Hollywood finally beat the New Zealanders at something! Read all about it in Hollywood Reporter and Daily Variety! bip bap |
