Big Crosley done !

Well almost . I have a hard time finishing knobs ( bad habit ) This
radio has 10 tubes `3 6F6` , shadow meter , 5 bands and stands 20``
tall .
It was trashed real bad . The case looked like it had sat in 6`` of
water . The base wood parts were all twisted and starting to rot . Every
edge had lifted veneers .

The chassis had been repaired many times . The power transformer had
burned up so bad once it covered the entire chassis in brown soot to the
point it ran out of the bottom of the case through a open joint and onto
the table . Then after that happened someone piled another transformer
in it and kept using it .
It worked as is with hum when i got it .

Took me hours to clean that chassis . Under the bottom i had to resort
to oven cleaner to get that tar off in the corner where the transformer
was . Dont need to express all the hours into this case :-)

Please forgive the bad webtv picture

Thanks Dave . Some computers see webtv pictures ok .

Jim i remember your Ristaucrat story years ago . I have 3 different
Rist-o units .
Every person who sees this little jukebox stops and wants to know more
and usually wants one .

Nice set, Ken. I have that one too, its called the 1055 or "The
Constitution" by Crosley. One of my favorite sets! I need the brass 5
color dot arc escutcheon for mine to finish it. These sets used all metal
tubes. Your coarse tuning knob is not original... it should be a ball
shape to mimick the other "round ball with flatted face" appearance.
This is the best table radio Crosley ever made, IIRC.

Thanks Mark . This had a wrong knob when i got it . I made that one from
scratch and tryed to imaging it and a design one could get a hold of .
After the thing was back together i noticed that knob kinda overlaps the
band escutcheon .

The radio is a powerhouse for sure . The audio is strong and can get
real loud , the bass is quite good for an 8`` speaker . My only other
issue is this replacement grille cloth vibrates against the grille with
bass .

The little escutcheon has white plastic behind it painted colors .
Behind each hole the plastic is raised like a little dome . You probably
already know all that .

That brass band escutcheon with 5 color dots shows up on the 9 and 8 tube
versions of this set too both table or console versions so I am hoping to
find a junker with one someday. I missed one on ebay a couple years ago for
$40.

The "outer" or "back" fast tune knob should be a half ball shape but
slightly larger diameter so you can grasp it from the front easily. The
"inner" or "front" vernier knob should essentially match the other knobs but
it is a little larger I think than the others. All the ball knobs have a
flatted face. I dont have any spares, maybe Dave Frush at
might. I got my back tuning knob from him at Rochester
about 8 years ago. I found my 1055 all beat up in a booth at Elgin around
1997... on the 2nd day! It was quite a mess... the knobs seemed missing
but actually 4 of them were INSIDE the set!
