There is an auction happening this Saturday not far from where I live, and
one of the pictures they posted on their site is of this radio. Obviously (to me, at least) it has been stripped, and is almost ready to be refinished. I plan on going over and checking out the auction, but can anyone tell me what make it is, and anything interesting you know about it? Thanks in advance, Buck |

Looks like a catalog brand to me, like Mantola or Firestone, one of those.

That thing bears a fairly close resemblence to Ward's Airline floor
console that I have. The chassis in it is a 14WG-1203(B, G or something). Hi!
Maybe a Silvertone You know, I took one look at that picture and said "that looks like a Silvertone"! I saw a Silvertone set very much like that in someone's house. It didn't have as many bands, but the knob layout was identical and the color was very close. William |

Mystery solved. It was a radio. Wooden.
Barn-fresh, whic in this case means it sat under an intermittenbt drip from November to May or june most years, which left a woderful patina of fat, furry rust on the chassis and speaker, while gently delaminating the top, leaving a soft, squishy surface. But I -did- pick up that nifty Viking.. Oh, the mkae of the console was Serenader, a house brand of Simpson's Canada made by Electrohome, in Kitchener, Ontario. Extra Points to those who can tell me the name of the City of Kitchener, BEFORE World War I. |
