Anyone seen one of these? I've had it for 10 to 15 years and have never
seen another like it.

Dave, that unit looks vaguely familiar, especially the "touch point". Have
you any idea how it is used? It looks like you feed in a signal and
hetrodyme it with one of the internal reference choices. That would work for
frequency, but time 'pips' must have been sent to a 'scope' to compare with
the measured pulse stream.
GR sure turned out some 'unusual' stuff.
I really like the " move switch to start divider "; make a defect in design
into a 'feature' :-)

Hello, Neil -

The only way I've used it is as a calibrator - never fed a signal into
it.

The touch point is very useful if you have a couple of signals you are
listening to and lose track of which signal is the marker, you can touch
the touch point and the marker signal will change frequency enough so
you can identify it.

I checked eBay regularly for 8 to 10 months and nothing showed up. Now
there is one for sale there.

So there is some information available about it now. A couple of years
ago there was nothing.

I have a GR "unit oscillator" made by general radio.I never figured
out how I would use it but it is really neat to look at, precision
device.

Also picked up a GR capacitor checker. Both of the pieces I have are
extremely well made,lab quality, the instructions are pretty advanced
for my electronics background but I think I should be able to get some
use out of the cap checker.

Was that thing designed for calibrating your signal generator perhaps?

It's a frequency standard, which could be used for calibrating anything
- receiver, signal generator, etc. I've used it only as a marker
generator - let it warm up, zero it with WWV, and use it. General Radio
gear is generally very nicely made stuff.
