some boat anchors, and other goodies
I'm new here, and just thought I'd post a few pics of my basement. Much of my stuff was acquired when I inherited it from my grandfather. His first call was 1QX. I don't have his first rtransmitter, but I have the one the government made him dismantle during WW I, so he couldnt' send secrets to the Germans. (Nevermind his best DX with that rig was only 40 miles)
After he moved to Baltimore, he was W3IBW.
I built my first rcvr when I was six (with my dad's help). We used old components that he had in his junk bin. The diode is a later addition. I originally used my grandfathers Westinghouse DB crystal detector. My cans were also of the sams vintage. They're around in the museum somewhere - I'll dig them out and post photos when I get a chance.
I also have lots of other goodies, and will post photos as I get around to it. Besides radios, I have a small collection of tubes, and lightbulbs. And lots of samples of unusual variable caps and resistors, including a prototype or two from Westinghouse's early days of the Microwave and Power Line Carrier Communications Department, which my grandfather headed up right before his retirement.
