IC R3

Any owners of an IC R3 have any comments about scanning for video monitors.
I'm thinking of getting one and curious if it is worth the cost. Cams on
race cars, news crews, etc all seem interesting as do security cams in
buildings etc.

It is a large stinky piece of Crap! I am glad I was able to unload mine.
Steer Clear.
It in no way picks up anything except TV. Although I did hit a news cam
barely, briefly.
No way will yu ever pick up a security cam, or a 24 gig cam.

Just don't even step into that.

I read awhile back the most interesting things to monitor, are
frequencies ABOVE what the 'R3' is capable of recieving, and it also has
a lousy battery life.

so true. You get a half hour of TV on the batteries. Recharging takes hours

My IC-R3 is the same, woeful life when using the TV, and pretty average even
without the screen flashed up. I have made up a couple of portable 6V power
packs so that if I need to, I can get a couple of days out of it.
