Air Force One

Listened all evening, but heard nothing, what did I do wrong ?

Bruce Cox November 19th 03 11:58 AM

Two really important factors involved: 1) where you and your rig are in
relation to where AF1 is, and 2) what frequencies you were monitoring. pcox

AF1's ATC comms are 100% AM... FM, NFM, or WFM is not used by ATC and
I bet it never will be used for ATC comms in our life time....

MilSat comms however are mostly FM. And the Orderwire network is WFM.

However your best bet of hearing the callsign "Airforce One" will be on
the standard ATC freqs for your area. And usually it will be the VHF,
not the UHF military, ATC freqs.

If you go to: http://www.milaircomms.com/audio_library.html and scroll
down about 1/2 way you'll see where you can listen to some AF1 comms I
had snagged during one of its visits to Florida.

WFM is normally used for commercial FM broadcasts.
AM is used for Aircraft Freqs except long range USB is used on the HF bands.
