I just acquired this scanner and love it, tho I am considering purchasing
the 396 due to the fact that I travel nationwide and run into too many
digital situations in larger cities, but my question will pertain to both
scanners.

What would be the quickest way to download a system to the radio when I
arrive in a particular city? Is there a frequency CD or program out there
that is compatible with the scanner that will let me quickly download the
one system I need and assign it a quick key within say 5 minutes after I get
to a certain locale? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I am a 48-state
trucker and need a quick programmer. As it is, I sit and search for systems
and punch them in manually - pain in the arse. By the time I get them
configured, it's time to leave: )

Go to http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR and get all
the systems you think you'll need. You can use the free Uniden UASD
software that you can download at their site to save the systems to
both the scanner and a laptop, from which you can upload any system to
the scanner in a few minutes.

Even if you program the system by hand, you can save it to disk, so
the next time you're there you just upload it to the scanner.

BTW, CDs and books are outdated almost before you get them. The RR
site is kept up to date by the users. (It would be nice if you
contributed something to it if you find it useful. I have nothing to
do with the site other than being a user, but I think it's a site
worth supporting.)

OK, from what I have researched - I will have to pay 30 buckaroos to unlock
the full version of the Uniden software in order to use it to dl from the RR
database. No problem with donating to the RadioReference website, it is well
worth it, in my opinion - so, what would you suggest...unlock the Uniden sw
or purchase the 3arc330? I'm leaning more toward the arc330, but I'm not
crazy about the interface and graphics. Any comments on using the RR website
with either program to dl and program freqs?

I use the Uniden software, only because I don't like Gommert's
attitude. I'm a shareware/freeware author and he disparages free
software. YMMV.

The Uniden programs don't directly download from the site, but KB8SOE
has a site that can generate a file from a copy/paste of the site.

Of the two choices. There are other programs that will, some for
scanners other than Unidens.

offer, but both companies do not list the popular BR330T in their list of

I am still waiting for that information, I even downloaded their latest
demo's and doc's, none of them mention BR330T

what protocol? We are talking about scancat/scancontrol docs, Mr X claims
they both support the BR330T, I am just trying to find a simple website to
acknowledge that...
