THE ROAD TO 9/11
Just about two months ago, America and the world remembered the horrific
terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. As part of our own commemorative
program, we spoke briefly with LAWRENCE WRIGHT, a noted journalist and
author of the recent book The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.
Tonight, he returns to the program for the full two hours, to discuss the
intelligence missteps that led to 9/11 and how the restructuring of the CIA
and FBI since the attacks has helped-or perhaps hindered-the hunt for Osama
bin Laden and his cohorts.

CNN, LOU DOBBS has also become a passionate advocate for tougher immigration
laws, checks on what he terms "the excesses of capitalism" and more legal
consideration for the average American. His latest book is War on the Middle
Class: How the Government, Big Business, and Special Interest Groups are
Waging War on the American Dream and How to Fight Back, and he is our guest
tonight on Extension 720 as we discuss immigration, globalization, taxation
and many more topics with one of America's most respected journalists.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST
EDUCATION IN AMERICA
Noted public intellectual Allan Bloom once defined education as "the
movement from darkness to light." But in modern American public schools are
students achieving true enlightenment? Or are classes too large and teachers
too overworked and students too distracted to achieve important educational
goals. Tonight, we will be exploring what's wrong with American public
schools and how these problems can be reformed with SOL STERN. One of the
leading voices for educational reform, Stern is a senior fellow at the
Manhattan Institute and the author of a number of books on education, his
most recent being Breaking Free: Public School Lessons and the Imperative of
School Choice.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND
WALKING ACROSS EUROPE
Acclaimed German filmmaker Werner Herzog has said that aspiring filmmakers
should skip film school and simply walk across Europe because "the volume
and depth and intensity of the world is something only those on foot will
ever experience." Chicagoan LEE KAZIMIR took Herzog at his word and decided
to walk from Madrid to Kiev. He began his journey in March, completed it in
August, and is now back in Chicago. He will be on our program for the first
hour tonight to talk about his journey and the documentary he hopes to make
from the footage.

COSMOLOGY
How was the universe formed? And what will happen to it as it ages? These
are questions that remain unanswerable, even as scientists probe the
innermost depths of the universe and come ever closer to explaining much
about its origins and organization, including the potential role of an
ultimate creator. Tonight, we will gather a panel of cosmological experts to
attempt to unravel these mysteries, including OWEN GINGERICH, who is
professor emeritus of astronomy and the history of science at Harvard
University, senior astronomer emeritus at the Smithsonian Astrophysical
Observatory, and author of the new book God's Universe.
