Nice idea for dial-up/cable users :-)

Phone line as SW antenna Bill McFadden This technique may have worked 10 or 15 Years ago Bill, but with the digital crap being pumped across the telephone lines today I don't think it's a good idea. Probably better to just get 10 or 20 feet of insulated wire out the window or better yet tacked up against the roof beams up in the attic. |

There was a discussion of this on the Red Star Files on WBCQ just last Friday, 8pm AST, 9329.7 kHz. The guest claimed that the noise can get past most surge suppressors, and recommended uninterruptible power supplies. Were they talking about a UPS to supress noise or prevent damage? I'd think if BPL can damage a radio, it could damage most electronic appliances. Frank Dresser |

You will only know just how much unwanted noise will be generated until the first time the phone rings while the radio is connected then it will be very quiet. No more noise or signal either after that. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

Then one day I was working on the phone lines and had hold of the primary two [red/green] when the phone rang. Actually, it was I who rang. I almost bit my tongue off. Gray |

Gray I once knew a guy who claimed to have unscupulously downed the phone system at the Univerisity of Illinois long ago. Apparently 120VAC found it's way into the phone systems wiring. He said every phone on campus rang momentarily, then all was silent. Mike |
