illegal to have installed in a car in L.A. county.

After all, the 1600 mc to 1710 kc portion of the AM broadcast band is in the
banned range of 1600 kc to 2500 kc.

Once again, this applies only to the city and county of Los Angeles,
California.

The LACSO used to use 1810 or something for ''calling all cars''
communications. We could hear them clearly in Phoenix at night on
just about any AM radio with a drifting-high local oscillator.

well, the frequencies listed in the California law are used for
international shortwave broadcasting.

It was only certain frequency ranges. (I forget which. I'll look it up

However, most shortwave recievers that I know of cover the entire
shortwave band anyways.

That reeks of a sadly misinformed person making a classic "Emily Latella"
styled argument ("... What's all this I hear about endangered
*feces*?!"...") during a concil meeting that managed to generate a few

Thanks for info. I wish I'd known earlier that there are current Becker units w/
SW. We got very good service from shortwavestore.com, but it would be
interesting to know how Becker's RF and AF quality compare to that of the Sony
XR-CA620X we got.

However, from your respone, I guess it's true what I've heard in the past that
people in the West can't laugh at theirselves like people in the midwest can
and do.

Here in my particulatr part of the midwest, around Christmas, our tv station
shows Santa Claus dressed as the Easter Bunny (instead of a red suit) and
carrying a basket full of Easter eggs while clibing down the chimneyof a
snow-covered roof to deliver the Easter eggs as Christmas presents.

And I'm not joking, either. I'm serious.

The Becker Mexico 2340 isn't current, it has been out of production for
several years, but there is some "New Old Stock" available. The current
Beckers with SW only do 49 meters.

I confess that it was awfully nice the other afternoon, between about 4:30 and
5:30 pm L.A. time, to receive the "Voices" interview program from Radio China
Int'l, then some news from Radio Exterior de Espana, then two very interesting
interviews from Radio Netherlands. Made the drive home far more enjoyable; and
so much better than the pap we get domestically (with the rare exception, of
course).

:-) I was listening to WWV for a while during my drive home from a class
last night. It was a lot more interesting than the host on the major
talk-radio station in the area. :-)

(I give it a seven. It has a nice beat. You can dance to it (slowly).)
