As a reader and frequent contributor to the rec.radio.amateur.antenna newsgroup, I see a large and increasing volume of messages cross posted to a large handful of groups which have nothing to do with antennas. Not surprisingly, I don't see any of the regular contributors to this newsgroup participating in the endless arguments about Morse code, testing requirements, and what it takes to be a "real" amateur. These threads seem to be increasing in number daily, involving the same participants, and have grown to the point that the signal-to-noise ratio of rec.radio.amateur.antenna newsgroup is getting seriously degraded. It's becoming necessary to fish through multiple off-topic threads to find the postings involving antennas. There's no point in including rec.radio.amateur.antenna in the list of newsgroups you send these postings to. There are certainly groups whose readers are much more interested in participating or reading about these topics. So my request is: Please don't include rec.radio.amateur.antenna in the list of newsgroups you send the original posting to. And when replying to a thread whose topic doesn't involve antennas, simply delete rec.radio.amateur.antenna from the list of newsgroups receiving the reply, before clicking "Send". This won't detract in any way from your discussions, and will be a relief for rec.radio.amateur.antenna readers and participants. Oh boy, Roy! I fear you just encouraged them! Once upon a time I posted fairly regularly in the policy group. Then we got a new member who was happy to e-bomb the group with the help of a lot of throwaway addresses. Heaven help ya if he chooses you as a target. I think what happened in policy was that a lot of regulars were chased away, or just got bored with hearing about others supposed sexual deviancy, and of course Morse code testing..... Of course it isn't any fun for those types if they don't have anyone to fight with. I suspect that the malignancy has just metastasized to the other groups to get more sparring partners. 8^) Groups trimmed to not be a part of the problem... - 73 de Mike KB3EIA - |
