How many of you who have towers in your yard have an anti-climbing shield
around the lower 6 feet or so of the tower to prevent neighborhood kids from doing Tarzan impersonations on your tower? I do. Made it out of chicken wire (about one-inch hexagonal holes). Just wrapped it around the tower and tied it to the legs a few times with twists of wire cut close. First thing I did after erecting the tower. (In fact, haven't even put an antenna on it yet!) --W0PBV -- --Myron A. Calhoun. Surely only a necessity if the tower is not in an enclosed area. Criminal trespass laws can be used to prosecute persons entering an enclosed or fenced area of private property. Or you could probably legally shoot them in Texas. :-) Failing that, a few feet of chequer plate padlocked to the tower will generally do the trick. Mike G0ULI |

That may work in a few states for adults, but not for kids. If it would attract an 8 year old, and they climb it and fall off, guess who gets sued. A couple of sheets of plywood is a lot cheaper than getting sued. -- Jim Pennino Remove .spam.sux to reply. |

In Georgia, if there is a swimming pool in the enclosed area, it is considered an 'irresistible temptation' or something to that effect for kids. The term you are looking for is "attractive nuisance". Basically, if a kid can see it and would think it might be fun to play on or in, and can get to it even if it requires climbing a fence, then gets hurt, you're screwed. Most people with pools around here put up block walls to make it harder to climb and not visible to passing kids. Chain link won't cut it on either count. -- Jim Pennino Remove .spam.sux to reply. |

Besides some sheet metal on the sides of the tower to discourage any
adventurous climbers (even though my backyard is fully fenced since I also have a pool), I have signs on the tower warning that it should not be climbed, and another that it is an electrical shock hazard. No problems in 18 years. bill "Rick (W-A-one-R-K-T)" wrote in message news ![]() How many of you who have towers in your yard have an anti-climbing shield around the lower 6 feet or so of the tower to prevent neighborhood kids from doing Tarzan impersonations on your tower? |

In most states (check with your lawyer) the age of reasoning is 7 years
old - so the kids are supposed to know right from wrong. With that in mind in a lot of states (check with your lawyer), the parents are also responsible for the TORTS of their children till about the age of 18 or so. The best bet is really to use some heavy gauge metal up to the first 14 feet (Most children can't lift a ladder larger than 10 feet) on all sides, of the tower and locked in place with key locks or chains thru the metal around the leg of the tower and then a key lock! Then a fence around your property, with signs posted KEEP OUT, BEWARE OF THE DOG (SNAKES), DANGER 1,000,000 MA HI-VOLTAGE, NO TRESPASSING, TRESPASSERS WILL BE PERSECUTED! You could also send a letter to all of the parents of your kid's friends, telling them that if their child climbs the tower and gets hurt, and that since you have taken great strides to thwart unauthorized access - (signs/fence, anti-climbing devices) - that the parents will be responsible for any damage their kids do to the tower, antennas & cables, and/or to themselves. 73's wrote in message ...
