Default 70cm and 2mtr Oscar Antennas

Well here it goes.
I have the above antennas made by Hygain 1 of 70-30 Sat and 1 of 216 Sat
The problem I have is that the physical footprint of both theses antennas
are to long for where I want to put them.I can make the boom shorter by
removing a section of the boom from the directors end, what I mean by
removing is to undo the the coupling on the boom and this would save me
about 5 feet of boom length. What I was wondering is what ramification this
will present.I realize I will loose some gain, but what about all the other
electrical characteristic will this effect (bandwidth, inpedence, swr etc.)
thanx
