I have changed over to a long wire antenna and have given my 20 year old
Hy-Gain 18AVQ vertical to a fellow ham. It needs some repairs and I am wondering if anyone can lead me to the construction/assembly details of this antenna. In particular how the connector at the bottom of the antenna connects to the internals! VK5JE You have hobbies. I have hobbies. Chances are I have one that you don't. I'll leave it up to you to decide! http://www.flightsimulatorandhobbies.com/ ----------------------------------------- |

If you have access to archives of CQ or 73 magazine, many years ago
there was an article describing the disassembly and rehab of the lower coupling of the Hy-Gain line of vertical antennas. As I recall there is some sort of internal coil/capacitor structure inside the lowest foot or so of the antenna. My guess is that the story was done sometime in the late 60's or the 70's. This is going only on my memory. I don't have the issues. Surplus Sales has the manual for the antenna.
http://www.surplussales.com/Manuals/man_hygain.html It is my understanding that HyGain/MFJ will supply parts they have from current inventories. Here is HyGain AV-14AVQ manual http://www.hy-gain.com/man/pdf/AV-14AVQ.pdf w9gb "JERD" wrote in message ... John,
Can you please verify your email address for me as I do have a good copy of what you are looking for. I recently built the same antenna, but had to put an external inductor at the base as the coil inside of the bottom insulator was US. 73 VK2KCE John "JERD" wrote in message ...
